Tactical Urbanism
Short-term Action // Long-term Change

During an overcast Saturday on the last weekend of April, The Tactical Urbanism Salon took place at Next American City’s Storefront For Urban Innovation in Philadelphia. Organized by The Street Plans Collaborative, Change Administration, Philly Works and Next American City to discuss DIY guerrilla urbanism at its finest, drawing urbanists from near and far to participate in an active discourse on the subject.

Initially bummed that I was unable to attend the event in person, I quickly discovered that a vibrant online dialogue was taking place, as attendees live tweeted the event and champions of the movement chimed in from all over the country. A rich online experience was created as a direct result of the ideas being articulated during the meetup.

The Storify embedded above aims to capture the tactile energy and enthusiastic discussion as it unfolded in real time. You can also view this storify in its entirety in stream form (if slides aren’t your thing) or learn more from the official guides to Tactical Urbanism produced by The Street Plans Collaborative:

I LOVE food; like, seriously. I love making it, eating it, talking about it and thinking about it... I am (according to everyone who has ever eaten my food, including me) a really good cook, mostly because I put a lot of love into the things I make for my friends and family, but also because I’ve learned a lot of great lessons along the way via trial and error.
